Mental Health Counseling I approach people who come to my office as clients and not as patients, as equals in a process that promotes understanding and eases suffering. Many of our struggles come from traumas of the past and, in our work together we will clarify the emotional, behavioral, and cognitive aspects of those struggles so that you may learn how to overcome them. I believe that these struggles are often caused by our relationships to other people. Viewed in this light, we will explore the relationship between important others in our lives and the ways that we view ourselves presently. Although from time to time I may offer an interpretation, mostly I will help you clarify your own understanding of yourself. In my office you will direct your own growth, and healing. I will be there to support you and to offer you a safe place to do your work. Most of my clients often see me to work on their emotions about the past, present, and future. This means that part of your work might include developing a better understanding of how your emotions operate, experiencing them more authentically, and becoming current with the past so you can free up your future. Finally, the work you do with me is completely up to you. I will be there with you emotionally to keep you safe and to clarify your understanding of yourself and what you want to become.
